It always gives you a warm fluffy feeling when an old face returns with a big smile. We welcomed Dilly back into the team and he certainly made a quick impact. We retained the formation from the previous week that Ed called for and placed him in the heart of it, if only to keep him fit after a tweak in his back. It allowed for us to quickly dissect Ben Rhydding and score within 2 mins. Guess who got the goal... It was Dilly!

We then probed, pressed and probably over complicated the game. We never looked like losing, we were always the stronger side however that didn't stop them having the occasional foray into our half of the pitch. Stan shut the majority of them down almost single handedly. His defensive partner (yours truly) often sat back and just pulled the strings verbally.

The standout moment for Stan was the reverse stick steal on our 25 metre line, he then maintained possession and carried the ball the length of the pitch to put the ball safely into the back of the Keepers pads! He sauntered back to his place alongside the rest of the defence for some gentle ribbing on why he hadn't scored.

Matt in goal had another stormer between the posts and continues to grow in confidence. In a moment of quality to quantify my statement he watched a well struck shot from the top of the D rise and only deflected it wide at the last minute making sure it wasn't reaching its intended destination. This may actually have been against Adel the previous week (it's been a hectic time for your truly so please forgive my memory), however it deserves calling out for a moment of composure and maturity beyond the young mans years.

Short corners were in short supply for no other reason than Ben Rhydding are no mugs. When we finally got one we asked questions that they were equal to. And then we had a rapid attack. Young Odhran was playing as one of a central 3 and menacingly moving forward with more and more success. On one such occasion he struck a shot in the D and it hit the last man on the line. Penalty flick awarded. This recount could go some way to explaining why Odhran thought we drew and secured him the most coveted end of match award - congratulations.

Up stepped yours truly to convert the second P Flick of the season and secure what should have been a comfortable 3 points and a clean sheet.

Maybe we backed off, maybe the rain got in our eyes or maybe we just like a challenge however we ended up gifting the opposition a late short corner. It should have been a routine test of holding out for a 2-0 win and a well deserved clean sheet for Matt however it's a funny old game and I was beaten by the better man who then smashed the ball into the net.

I've promised Matt I will make the tackle next time.

What more can I say? Well Tom Cooper who is very unlikely to read this as he struggles with technology, played a stormer and in my mind was man of the match. Only kidding, that accolade fell to Stan and rightly so but he needs to work on his finishing. Anyone would think he was tired after carrying the ball 80 yards and taken on 8 from 11 of the opposition. You'd done the hard part Stan!!

A solid 3 points bagged against a team who had experience but not much cutting edge. It didn't feel as joined up as the previous week however a win is a win!
