I'm a little behind on my match report so let's carve out some time to catch up on the 3rd team story this season.
With every good (subjective) story there should be a beginning, a middle and an end. I find myself often wanting to jump to the end however I've slapped my own hands and I plan to be brief on this one, as this game was a couple of weeks ago. That time has allowed me to sleep and drink in unequal amounts and it's making things a little fuzzy! So here goes....
The Beginning
They scored 2 goals, we battled, we fought hard, we kept ourselves in it with a solid structure, which was changed from what we have been playing after a conversation at the end of the previous game with Ed.
The Middle
Our key protagonist in this weeks story shone for all the wrong reasons. In a moment (or two) of sheer excitement Mr Greenberry fell out of love with gravity. The result was harrowing, horrific and hilarious depending on your roll in the swan dive and tumble. That's an early vision of the end as Mike secured one of the after match awards.
The End
An ending to rival a Marvel movie has to be credited to this seasons sicknote, our own Lee Booth. With 10 minutes to go in a touchline conflab with the jaded captain, he called a position change. We were 2-0 down, we had nothing to lose and in hindsight it also made absolute sense. A shift of Stan to right back to allow him to abandon his central defensive duties and just focus on attack put Adel on the back foot.
We switched the ball quickly around the defence, utilising the midfield to support overloading the right channel. It quickly worked and we grabbed a number of short corners, and secured our first goal at the stick of Poggy.
The comeback was on!
We kept the pressure up and asked a lot of questions against a well drilled and experienced Adel team. If we had more time we'd have got something from the game, other than a feeling of never being out of it.
Stand out performance, instigator of the formation change and winner of Man of the Match went to Ed Crowther.
If you're wondering about the quote, I spoke to my Mum after the game and "It looked a tough game!" was the sum of her insight. Alas I've not inherited her succinctness. You can be forgiven for not seeing her, she wasn't hiding and could be found stood behind the goal as you approach the pitch. She's 5 foot tall in her socks and after two new knees, I reckon she may be a little less lofty!
