Having not played in over a month, the boys had to blast some rust away. After the long trip top Brigg, we started off slow, finding it hard to get connected with each other again. Beaumont had a deflection just lift above the bar and Seb Carter narrowly missed at the back post. Brigg would open the scoring with a scooped shot from the top of the D, with Bob McCallum trying to save the ball as well as Neil Harris's backside. 1-0. Brigg scored the second with a good breakaway goal making it 2-0 at half time.
With the second-half plan in place, the Dragons got a good hold of the game, coming close in the early minutes. Jos Brown was taken out in the 23, but the Brigg defender avoided a card, to the shock of almost everyone on the pitch. With 10 minutes go Jonny Beaumont scored past the Brigg keeper, in a goal-line scramble. 2-1. Jonny nearly claimed a second moments later, but sent the ball into outer space, rather than the back of the net.
If the clock had given us five more minutes, a draw would have been gained, however, the final whistle made the result 2-1 to Brigg. A great second-half performance for the team and player of the match to Bob McCallum.
