The M2s came into this game, 2nd in the league on goal difference. We started the half well playing some good hockey, in short passing moves or longer penetrative play into the bankers 23. The Bankers keeper made several good saves until Shery scored at the back post, only to have the goal chalked off for a foot in the build-up. With more consistent pressure, Shery would become the creator, setting up James Goldthorpe for his third goal in two games. With limited time in our defensive D, Sheffield made the most of a mistake at the back and managed to equalise from a tight angle.
1-1 at halftime.
The second half saw the Dragons midfield halting any of the Bankers attacks, turning play over from defence to attack. Shery again looked good in the final quarter, almost playing in young Watson, to have the umpire call the play back for an earlier foul. The half would have us camped in the opposition's half, but to no reward. Whether a lack of patience in our play or the Bankers back five were the cause, we could not find the back of the net. A great double save from the keeper to deny Beaumont and the green card for a Ben Lewis back stick, which only he didn't see, were the last of the day's action.
1-1 full time
A disappointing 2 points lost was the feeling in the bar. The silver lining was a loss from Sheffield 4s putting the Dragons top of the table by one point. Player of the match to Charlie Watson for both attacking and defensive play.
