Ladies 1st team promoted!

Ladies 1st team promoted!

Richard Waugh8 Apr - 11:32

Job done!

As the 2024/2025 season comes to a close, we can now celebrate the success earned this season.

The ladies' third team have managed to finish the season in their best position for many years. Finishing 4th in the Moor Division 1. A fantastic season, great team spirit and some wonderful hockey. Our L2s had an equally strong season, being in contention for promotion until the final few fixtures of the season, where results went against them and they sat 6th at the end.

The 1st eleven were the cream of the crop this year. After narrowly missing out on promotion last year, they have continued to grow in strength, having another exceptional season, finishing 2nd in the league, just four points behind league winners Sheffield.
Team captain, Jaclyn Payne, had some fine words to say about the season.

“We began the season strong, with a good fit squad of 15 players, taking maximum points for the first six games. Sadly, we lost our experienced centre defence, as she fell pregnant”.
The team was injury struck, through the season, with several people out due to hip problems, hamstring tears, shoulder problems, twisted ankles, back problems, knee niggles, international duty and one broken hand!

“I’d like to extend my thanks to those who stepped up from the 2s to help, Carys, Hollie, Sophie and Rosie, who then became a permanent member of the 1s”, said Payne.
The team scored 70 goals over the season, with Rebecca Lee (Pinder) scoring a massive 26 of those!

“We played some beautiful hockey but also some downright ugly performances, but we ground out result after result and only lost three times in the season to finish second”.
It has been a long two weeks' wait to find out if the team will be getting promoted, but Jaclyn happily received an email from the league secretary confirming we WILL be playing in the Yorkshire & North East division 1 next year.

“Massive thanks to our Coach Peter Lee. His dedication and passion really helps spur the team on and we would not have managed promotion without him”, said a grateful Payne.
Former men's 1st team captain and club captain, Pete Lee, took over the Ladies 1s performance training and management of the squad two seasons ago.

“Really proud of the ladies and what they have achieved this season. It has been the culmination of two years developing a strong team culture and style of play, and they fully deserve the opportunity to challenge themselves next season in the YNE Div 1!” said Lee.

With promotion to the Yorkshire and North East division 1 next season, the squad will face new challenges playing at a higher level, but with consistency and dedication, they will give it a great effort.
