League update.

Good evening Dragons.

So we find ourselves at the Christmas Break. We’ve all had to endure lots of changes this year. Still, some more changes to come I’m afraid.

With the regular season having been postponed for a large number of games, the Yorkshire league has made the decision to cancel the leagues for the 2020/2021 season. With so many games already missed and the uncertainty of local restrictions, they have probably made the smart choice for this year’s hockey. But fear not.

After the Christmas break, all Yorkshire league sides will be entered into regional leagues, commencing January 16th. Here are some notes from the YHA meeting.

Notes from the YHA Club Meeting held on Tuesday 8th December

1 – No promotion or Relegation from YHA Leagues this season – all results from the first half of the season void

2 – New West Yorkshire League to begin on Saturday 16th Jan 2021 and finish on Saturday 27th March.

3 – Leagues to compose of approximately 12 teams giving 11 matches where all teams play each other once – either home or away.

4 – Team selection not under the usual rules but expected to be appropriate

5 – England Hockey lobbying the government to relax the rules re-shared travel – currently advice is for only same households (or bubbles) to travel in the same car

6 – England Hockey still require a player register for each game/training session

7 – Unfortunately North Hockey has as yet not made any decisions with regard to their leagues – teams in the North League are not included in the new local leagues.

So we get to move on with the season, in a slightly different way. No more trips to Hull this year, just more local games against our bitter rivals. We shall see what the North Hockey Leagues come up with for the L1s and M1s.

A special mention to both our Men’s and Ladies 3rd teams, sitting top of their leagues, well-done teams.

So that’s it. With a little understanding from everyone, we can keep playing hockey and continue building our club in the positive direction we are moving in.

All the best and Merry Christmas.

Richard, your club Chairman.
